In Response to the Searsmont Fire
Many of you have reached out in the wake of the tragic mass casualty incident at the Robbins Lumber Mill in Searsmont. Your concern — for those affected and for our teams — has meant a great deal to all of us. We want to share a brief update, and to thank you.
In the midst of a rapidly unfolding and extraordinarily challenging situation, six LifeFlight crews from all three of our bases mobilized alongside local and regional partners. Multiple aircraft and teams were deployed, bringing critical care directly to patients at the scene, as well as to various local hospitals.
More than 20 crew members were involved in the operation, including critical care transport nurses and paramedics, helicopter and airplane pilots, EMT/ambulance drivers, and our extraordinarily skilled Communications Specialists. We responded with all three modes of LifeFlight assets — helicopters, airplane, and ground critical care ambulances.
As they always do, our clinicians delivered ICU-level care where it was needed most — calmly, skillfully, and with remarkable focus in the face of uncertainty and chaos in the midst of emotionally and physically challenging circumstances. Our teams constantly train for the care and transport of severely injured trauma patients, participating in comprehensive educational opportunities including advanced burn life support. They also participate in multiple mass casualty drills every year. Preparedness is the promise we make before the call ever comes.
Moments like this make clear what is at stake — and what your support makes possible. Because of you, our teams are ready: trained, equipped, and able to respond immediately when lives hang in the balance. We are deeply grateful to have you as part of this work and our LifeFlight community.
For those who feel moved to do more, we welcome your continued support — whether through the Elevate program to sustain our crews or through investments in our fleet to ensure we are always ready for the next call. Your support is truly what makes immediate, lifesaving response possible.
Thank you for standing with us — and with the patients and communities who depend on LifeFlight every day and night of the year.
