The Owen H. Jones Wellness Fund
From earliest childhood, Owen loved playing rescue. As soon as he turned eighteen, he became a volunteer firefighter in his hometown and trained as an EMT. He liked the variety and the challenge of the work — no two days were the same. Several times he expressed to me his deep satisfaction in being able to be a steady presence on someone’s worst day. Of course, along with the rewards of the role comes the stress of working under intense, time sensitive conditions. We felt the best way to honor Owen’s life was to endow a fund to support the wellness of LifeFlight’s first responders so that they might maintain a healthy balance as they continue with this vital work.

The Owen H. Jones Wellness Fund will provide an annual financial distribution that will support LifeFlight’s Elevate Program, an innovative and vitally important program designed to support the mental health and wellbeing of all LifeFlight staff.
LifeFlight’s Elevate Program completed its pilot year in July 2025. It has been well received and, importantly, well utilized by LifeFlight team members across disciplines (nurses, paramedics, pilots, EMTs, communications specialists). The Elevate Program includes a dedicated, full-time therapist on staff, available to any member of the team at no cost, as well as a uniquely designed peer support program and funds for wellness equipment.
This endowed fund will be held and managed by The Maine Community Foundation (MCF), which manages all of the LifeFlight Foundation’s endowment and investments. Gifts must come directly to the LifeFlight Foundation and will then be sent to MCF. The target gift amount we hope to reach by December 31, 2025 is $25,000, but we need your help to make that happen.
